Under the 2003 electricity and gas Directives, national energy regulators must (since 2005) publish an annual report on the outcome of their monitoring activities related to the functioning of electricity and gas markets.
The European Commission is also required to submit to the European Parliament and the Council an annual report (commonly known as benchmarking report) on the application of the Directives which outlines progress in creating the Internal Energy Market (IEM) in Europe.
The European Commission and ERGEG have agreed on a common structure for the national country reports and on the data compiled by the regulators for use in the Commission’s benchmarking report.
Each year ERGEG publishes an overall Assessment of the Development of the European Energy Market which draws conclusions from the national country reports. It assesses progress and highlights critical points affecting the development of more efficient and integrated electricity and gas markets in Europe.
The folders on the left contain the national reports for each Member State and the annual ERGEG Assessment of European Energy Market, for each year since 2005. The national reports are published in English as well as in the national language.
