European energy regulators' international activities

| Introduction
Raising the profile of energy regulators globally, promoting the European model of independent energy regulation and enhancing energy security underpin some of CEER's initiatives in the field of international cooperation and training. This includes bilateral relationships with regulators from third countries as well as multilateral relationships through the International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER). In addition to our work on promoting an internal market in energy in Europe, CEER works to enhance and deepen the exchange of expertise and experience between regulators worldwide. In a context of increasingly interdependent and global energy markets, strengthened cooperation and consistent approaches to regulation can help to improve market conditions and results to the benefit of all. Building on the informal cooperation between regional regulatory associations across the globe, in 2009 regulators established the International Confederation of Energy Regulators as a permanent platform for dialogue and communication among regulators to improve public and policy-maker awareness and understanding of energy regulation and its role in addressing a wide spectrum of socio-economic, environmental and market issues. CEER's President, Lord Mogg, was appointed as the first Chair of this new organisation. Among other things, ICER members work together on issues related to security of supply, climate change, competitiveness and affordability and the independence, powers and training of regulators. The pages in this section illustrate some of the work CEER is doing at international level and provide information and relevant documents from meetings on energy regulation across the globe. The EU-US roundtable is a long established (almost annual) dialogue between US and European energy regulators. The World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER) is a major global conference hosted by energy regulators held only once every three years. The next World Forum (WFER V) takes place in Canada in May 2012. The IERN website is a platform which facilitates energy regulatory cooperation worldwide.
